As Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) continues to celebrate 10 years of the US Open T20, news coming to hand is that they will be awarding a total of 10 scholarships for 10 top players at the upcoming Youth US Open T20 tournament at the end of August in Fort Lauderdale.
Founder of the US Open T20 tournament Mahammad Qureshi revealed that 10 lucky cricketers will benefit from these scholarships with will be worth in total $5,000. Each player who wins one will get $500. However this amount will be given to his school, so that they can provide books and other necessities for the player. No money will be given to any player because he is a minor and this is not allowed. The school will get the funds and they will be in charge of getting stuff for the player.
The tournament which has attracted great attention will see a number of teams from across the country an even the Caribbean taking part. This tournament begins on August 24 and ends on the 26. The players taking part will be exposed to great media coverage under the Maq Media Group and they will be able to showcase their talent for all to see.
Qureshi, who has been the maharaja of cricket in South Florida says that he wants to help as much as he can in the development of young players and hence the reason he is staging this Youth US Open. “We have staged many tournaments and this year we are having the 10th US Open. We are happy to celebrate with the people who made this the wonderful tournament it is and therefore we are going to give 10 scholarships for the young players. They will benefit from US Open T20 because their development is critical. We will see an explosion of talent from these young men at the end of August and after this we hope to see many of them coming to our academy to continue to develop their skills. In the end we will see a mushrooming of great talent that will be available for the US cricket team in the future.”
